Is it comfortable? TOP ChicKen ScRatch slings are very comfortable! One of the reasons I bought ChicKen ScRatch Slings from Laura Jane is that I knew I would be selling not only a gorgeous product, but an extremely comfortable one. I love wearing my ChicKen ScRatch Slings and I think they are the most comfy slings I've ever worn. Our unique design makes it easy for the shoulder of the sling to cap your shoulder, giving you better weight distribution across your back and hips. You can either leave the sling folded as it goes across your back or fan the fabric out, whichever is more comfy for you. There are many possibilties for wearing your sling. Each has it's benefits and comfort levels. Please keep in mind that it does take some time to prepare your muscles for carrying a child. In the beginning you may have some discomfort or aches until you build up your babywearing muscles. You can think of it like exercising... If you never exercise and you decide to walk 2 miles, you will be sore, but if you excercise regularly and you walk 2 miles, it does not bother you. You must also readjust your sling periodically as your baby shifts position, or if she relaxes and her weight shifts, just as you need to periodically adjust your clothing for comfort or to keep it tidy and neat looking. What ages are appropriate for using a sling? TOP Using a sling at birth is ideal for you and your baby to begin slinging. With my first child, I didn't wear him until he was about 3 weeks old because I hadn't purchased a carrier yet. Once I started slinging, let me tell you it was life changing! With my baby daughter I made sure I was prepared when I went to the hospital. She had her first sling ride on her third day of life as I walked around my hospital bed to speed my C section recovery. She's been riding along ever since! It is not recommended to carry a baby once he reaches 35 lbs or greater. Also, you can change carrying positions to accomodate your child's weight and development. Just be sure with a newborn to heed all safety warnings. Check that the newborn's airway is clear at all times and that his head is held in a correct position for comfort and clear breathing. Keep your newborn's face clear and don't let him get swallowed up by the fabric. I always made sure that my newborn baby's face was within kissing distance and I never had a problem. What shoulder style do you use? TOP All ChicKen ScRatch slings are a wide "hot dog" shoulder. We prefer to use the term, center-fold, as it seems more appropriate. The edges of the fabric are folded into the center. Using our signature shoulder band, allows the shoulder to create an opening for the shoulder to be capped or worn straight. This particular design does not restrict arm movement or cause your arm to go numb after only a few minutes of use. What I also love about our shoulder style is that it helps prevent the fabric from twisting behind you as you put the sling on. We have tried several different shoulder styles and we have found this to work the best for us and our customers. All shoulder styles are different and not every style is great for everyone. What width are your slings? TOP
We have made changes in the width of our slings. ChicKen ScRatch Slings are now a full 27 inches wide, giving you plenty of fabric to do all carries and making nursing in your CSRS easier.
The narrower 22-25 inch widths will be available for a limited time. Look for the width on the description of the sling you are interested in. What kind of rings do you offer? TOP
We offer rings purchased from www.SlingRings.com. We were impressed with Sling Rings' quality and their extensive safety testing. They are the only manufacturer we are aware of that adheres to such rigorous safety standards. They offer a wide variety of colors as well! We use their rings exlusively to ensure that all of our rings are safe and secure. Do you offer wholesale discounts or Co-ops? TOP
We do offer wholesale discounts to merchants purchasing 5 or more ChicKen ScRatch Ring Slings. All wholesale inquiries must be submitted and will be reviewed for approval. We will do our absolute best to contact you within 24 hours of inquiry.
We are not able to offer co-ops at this time. Denim? On a Sling? TOP
We love denim!!! We love the ability to accessorize with a sling and the flexibility of dressin' up or down! My favorite thing to wear is a pair of comfortable jeans! (ok, fine, so I prefer sweats most of the time, but that would make a hideous sling!) We offer 2 choices of denim: Sunbleached Stretched Denim (96% Cotton, 4% Lycra; our most popular) and Washed Denim ( 65% Cotton, 35% polyester; this is not a stretchy denim, and is traditional denim color)
Please also keep in mind that using the word "denim" is not the typical denim most people think of. We are not making slings out of jean material, but soft cotton with a denim weave. Believe me, these denims are like butter! Soft and wonderful, but without the added calories! Do you accept custom orders? TOP Yes! It is a great way to work closely with a customer and make them something unique and one of a kind. You choose your fabric, and we'll make the sling for you! What are the prices for custom slings? TOP The price varies upon the fabric, style and accessories. We start the prices for custom slings at $150. This price includes your basic CSRS with a basic pocket, your choice of our instock denim or linen (or you may choose and purchase your own) untrimmed panel, trimmed rails, aluminum rings and our signature shoulder band. Double accented pockets, panels, etc starts at $10. You can supply your own accent fabric. We will ask for a non-refundable security deposit (1/2 of the starting price) and then once you have chosen the design, fabrics and trim, we will give you a price and an estimated time as to when it will be shipped. (Usually within 5-7 business days.) Custom orders are non-returnable unless a defect is sighted within 5 days. Where are your slings manufactured? TOP
ChicKen ScRatch Slings are proudly made in the U.S.A.!
For many years ChicKen ScRatch Slings were hand made by the founder Laura Jane, and then by Heather when she bought the company in 2008.
They are still hand made, but as we have grown we employ more hands to make them. We have a small production in California with excellent working conditions and great wages. Our slings are made by professional sewing contractors with years of experience in their trade. They take pride in what they do and that translates into quality workmanship.
Heather works side by side with them and oversees all aspects of production to ensure that we offer the same quality product that ChicKen ScRatch Slings has come to stand for. When will my package ship? TOP All orders are shipped within 7 business days, although it is usually much quicker. Please keep in mind that all slings are hand made at the time of purchase. This also allows us to have more fabrics and designs available. We are also a small business and each sling is hand designed and hand sewn. We also have our families to take care of in addition to ChicKen ScRatch. If you need your sling shipped quickly, we will do everything possible, and a small fee of $15 extra is added to the additional expedited shipping and handling fees. Where will you ship your products? TOP We will ship a product anywhere that you would like! For shipping to Canada, we will only ship via USPS Global Priority and you are responsible for any customs fees and or taxes that may occur. We have no control over fees that you may encounter and we will NOT mark a package as "gift" as this is mail fraud.
Do you accept returns? TOP We will allow for 1 exchange (or store credit) per order for a different size or defective stitching within the first 5 days of purchase, only. No refunds will be given. Please understand that this is a small WAHM-owned business and I make every effort possible to ensure your happiness with my products. I am always more than willing to give you additional pictures of the slings so that you may know exactly what you will be receiving. For more information on our return policy, please see our Policies page. What is your privacy policy? TOP Any information you provide us will be kept fully confidential.
