 ChicKen ScRatch Slings

The DL on ChicKen ScRatch Sizes:

We have implemented a sizing GUIDE which is easy to use, and we are fully confident that by providing correct information, you will find the size best suited for you. The factors involved in getting the correct size will be determined by your size and build, but also your preferences. We ask that you please read through our sizing page prior to ordering so that you may have the size that will work best for you.

In-Stock Sizes:  The majority of people will wear a Small, Medium or Large sling, so we only keep those sizes in stock. If you need an X-Small, X-Large, or XX-Large sling please give us up to 10 days to fill your order.

Does size really matter?
Well isn't that the age old question?! The answer is YES! You must have the right size to successfully carry your child in a ChicKen ScRatch Sling.
Having a sling too large will result in the tail falling below your knee, creating a safety hazard by increasing the possibility of you tripping. A sling too large will also allow for the pocket to be too far down, resulting in the pocket becoming useless.
If you choose a size too small, the pocket will be caught in the rings, making it impossible to adjust the rails or use the pocket.

Ok, so what if you happen to be 2 sizes?
That happens. You go to the store, try on some jeans and you can wear 2 sizes, now what? Well, ask yourself this (when deciding on your CSRS Size, not your jean size):
"Do I want a long tail or a short one?" Your answer to that will determine your size.

Should I consider my height when choosing a size:?
Yes! Laura Jane is thin and really tall (5'10"). She has narrow shoulders and a larger bust.  The chart recommends a small, but because of her height she can also get away with a medium if she wants an extra long, extra elegant tail. She can even get away with a large if she wants a really long tail, but that wouldn't be her best choice.  Heather is average build with a larger bust but she is very short (5 feet tall to be exact.) Even though at a size 14 she can wear a medium, she chooses a size small because of her height.

So the moral of the story is... if you are really tall and thin to average build you have a lot of leeway with sizes.  If you are really short (under 5'2") you might want to choose the next size down.

What if you want to know exactly what size sling will work for you and you don't want to rely on the size chart?
Ok! You've read the chart but you want to make EXTRA sure of the size, and we totally encourage that! What you should do is take a soft measuring tape, start at the back of your shoulder and hang the tape where you would wear your rings (this is about 3-4" for most people), then you will wrap the tape *loosely* around your back, up to the starting place of the tape (back to the rings) and see where you would like for the tail to end.**
*Remember that a baby is going in there, so leave enough room for him too!
**Most of our slings have 20" of accent fabric so you will need approximately 27" on the tail for plenty of room for the accents and adjusting.** If we measure around Laura Jane and remember that she needs those accents accounted for, we come up with 78" of length, a size small.

On a personal note: Laura Jane is wearing a size small above. In the photo, she was a size 6, wore a small shirt and weighed 145lbs. She is also 5'10. According to the size chart, 2 out of 3 recommended a size small. A small is the 'correct' size needed, but she could also wear a size medium with no problems to achieve a more elegant look and a longer tail.
Examples are shown here and here

If you are shorter and you fit two sizes, go with the smaller size so the tail won't be too long for you.
