Cradle Carry
The cradle hold is the most common carry for newborns, but not all babies prefer this carry. There are 2 ways to carry your baby in the cradle position, the traditional cradle carry and the opposite cradle carry. Below are directions on how to use both.
Traditional Cradle Hold (Baby's head next to the rings) (Most babies do not prefer this position once they are older, however with very young babies, this is one of the best positions and will help you get used to wearing the sling. If you are still pregnant, this will also be a beneficial carrying position using a doll or stuffed animal to practice with.)
- After putting your sling on and forming the pouch, gently cradle your baby with one arm, putting him in the pouch of the sling, bottom first, with his head next to the rings.
- Now that your baby is in the sling, pull the top rail of the sling in an upward motion so that the baby is snug and secure next to your body.
- Keep baby's arms in the sling to ensure comfort and safety. For extra closeness, pull the rails individually for a perfect fit, continuing in the upward motion.
- *Very Important* Please make sure that your baby has plenty of room to breathe!! You do not want fabric near his airway, make sure that his chin is up and not buried into his chest or your body.
- Please take extra precautions while your baby is in a sling, as you would while feeding!*
Opposite Cradle Hold
(This was the preferred carry when my son was small and was easier for me, than the traditional cradle carry. Try both to see which may work best for you.)
- After putting your sling on and forming the pouch, gently cradle your baby with one arm, putting him in the pouch of the sling, bottom first, with his head opposite to the rings for a better and more comfortable fit for you and your baby.
- Now that your baby is in the sling, pull the top rail of the sling in an upward motion so that the baby is snug and secure next to your body.
- Keep babies arms in the sling to ensure comfort and safety. For extra closeness, pull the rails individually for a perfect fit.
- This position give the natural feel of cradling a baby and will get you the most used to carrying your baby in your ChicKen ScRatch Sling if using for a newborn.
